This is the first of my website building tips tutorials - We will soon be going live with a video tutorials series on how to build a website from scratch
The first thing you need to do is search for a suitable domain name, but before you go doing that, think about the relevancy of your ideal name, unless you are a media star there is no point in having a website in your own name, as if the world doesn't know your name then they won't search for it - it's that simple
Next when thinking of a name if you a catchy one such as Blogger or e-bay then thats fine but, most of us will tend to go for a longer worded descriptive name. In addition you should consider the use of hyphens in between words.
The reason for this is that say www.janeaustenbooks.com is not a real word, but www.jane-austen-books.com is. By that I mean that when Google searches the first domain title it is far less likely to recognise the title as a real word, however the second domain title is far more likely to be recognised by Google as it consists of easily recogniseable 'Real' words. Hence don't be afraid to use Hyphens in your domain name.
It's also my preference to keep domain names as short as possible as then they are easy for people to remember.
A good website name can make or break your website traffic so choose carefully. Finally I'd recommend using
Simply.com - last tip is that if possible buy both the .com name and the regional name such as .co.uk for England as an example.
